Commander's Brief: 1/17/2025

Veteran businesses, resources, classic posts, and more.

Welcome back, gang.

I got some fun stuff to share so let’s dive in.

Veteran Business of the Week

I wrote a post a few weeks ago about my friend who runs Aerial Resupply Coffee.

Run by a retired army officer (and friend of mine), Mike Klemmer, they make *actually* good coffee.

On a side note, I am going to start building a directory of veteran-owned businesses that we all can support. I’m looking for goods or services that someone can buy online, so nothing that is just local and probably not B2B. If one comes to mind, just reply back to this email with it.

Resource of The Week

I’m really excited about a new partnership I just started. It’s with Shift Group.

They specialize in preparing veterans and former elite athletes for careers in sales and business development.

I’m working with veterans inside their company to put together some events for you all to let you know what they are all about.

They offer 100% free coaching and training on getting started with a career in sales and they make their commission from a hiring company when you get hired. The training can be finished in as little as 3 days (if you are really motivated).

Here was the stat that blew my mind:

They have a <5% attrition rate for their hires. That’s freaking insane. Especially considering they have volume, placing 1,000+ veterans and athletes.

Meaning, when they place someone at a company, that person REALLY likes the company, the company REALLY likes them, and they are doing REALLY well there.

Again- totally free.

Check them out here.

Business Idea

This is one of those ideas you kinda laugh about with your friends, then all look at each other until someone says,

“Hey this might actually work”

I call it Sunday Filay.

(Name is a work in progress)

What is it?

You get a good truck and park it next to a Chick-fil-a on Sundays and sell chicken sandwiches.

That is it. It’s a chicken truck that is only open on Sundays.

Here’s how I would do this:

Find a Chick-fil-a location next to another major retail business (I have one near me next to a Lowe’s). Ask that business if you can park in their lot on Sundays.

If you are in a corner, you shouldn’t be in the way of their main customers and will likely drive them some traffic.

Win-win.

New

I got this message from a listener about my most recent podcast episode:

Lukas is a previous guest and we talk about the VC-backed startup from our first episode that he shut down. But his new project, Vetclaims.ai , is pretty awesome. They use AI to look over your records and find discrepancies in your VA claim. What is their impact?

  • $694,962 Average Lifetime Earnings Increase

  • $111M Overall Economic Impact

  • 100% Veteran Feedback

Listen in to hear why and how Lukas started this and be sure to check out Vetclaims.ai for your own needs.
