Think Big in 2023

We as veterans tend to think small.

It makes sense- we spent our formative years in the military, quite a risk-averse institution. Careers are planned on a path and so you cannot quite network your way past a few career levels like you could in the civilian world. Pay is defined and so you cannot go ask the boss for a raise.

All this teaches us is to “follow the path.”

But what if you did not?

What if, instead, you think big?

You apply to that MBA program you thought was out of your reach.

You go to investors for capital to start or buy a business.

You go to your boss and ask for that big raise.

You cut that person out of your life that is draining you.

Whatever it is, think BIG. Swing for the fences. Get after it and stop waiting around for permission and someone to tell you it is OK to do what you want to do.

You might just find that you get what you want.
